Good Teacher

A teacher is the one who shoulders the responsibility of molding the young generation. A good teacher clearly tells the children what is good and bad. He will never be biased or self-centered. The significance of teacher is stated in the popular Malayalam proverb, that says, "mother, father and teacher is same as God".

A good teacher will essentially have the following characteristics.

  • Deep knowledge in the subject
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students
  • Be a perfect role model.
Earlier times, teachers were supposed to be like an encyclopedia. But as of now, the information and science is very vast. One can never be an expert in all of these. Hence, the present the best possible is that the teacher should be through and update in his subject area.

Secondly, the teacher should able to inspire the students to new ideas and thought processes. He should  be able to motivate them to achieve further by extending their limits. Craving out the best is the sole responsibility of the teacher.

Third, is  that the teacher should a perfect role model for the students to emulate. A criminal can only drive home the thought that resorting to bad things is alright for own benefit. A killer or a womanizer can tell only one message, that own pleasures is the most important. Such ill schooled students are the one who makes the life miserable for everyone else.

Two Moral Stories

Stories are liked by every one of all ages. Some stories have good ending while others are tragic. Most stories has so much to tell us. Most of them have a message that make us think and act accordingly.

Two stories that  interested me and inspired me a lot is narrated below.

Story1:

Once a eagle was hungry and was flying searching for food. While flying high in the sky and searching the ground for food, he spotted a fox keeping some fleshy worms in custody. He was quite hungry and decided to stop at fox. Eagle pleaded for few worms to feed on. Fox then said, your feathers are very beautiful, give me ten them in exchange. Eagle agreed for the trade. When the eagle ate one worm, he wanted more and more. The trade thus continued between eagle and fox.
After some time, eagle lost most of his feathers, thus making him almost impossible to fly. Suddenly fox jumped over the poor eagle and killed the eagle to fill his belly.

Moral of this story is that, we should not trade precious gifts given by GOD for momentarily pleasures in the world.

Story 2:

There was a King who ruled a mighty country. He was extremely rich, always happy and spent lot for enjoyment and fun. One day a Sanyasi(guru) visited his palace. Seeing the attitude and life style of the king he decided to warn him not to be irresponsible in duty. Instead directly delivering the message, the Sanyasi presented the King a ring. He informed the King that there is a message inscribed inside the ring, and in difficult times in life he may read the hidden message.

After some years there was an unexpected war with a neighboring enemy country. King was poorly prepared for the war, but took all his army to the battle field to defend his country. However, his army was ill prepared and was getting defeated in the war. Highly disappointed, the King sat down on his chariot for a moment. That time, he remembered about the old Gurus gift. That moment he decided to explore what is there inside that gift. He removed the ring from his fingers and read what was written. It said " this moment shall also pass".

Suddenly he realized the present moment of sadness will also pass-by naturally, just like the earlier happy and joyful moments. This thought rejuvenated him. Once again he gathered his spirits, and fought bravely leaving behind all discouraging thoughts. His warriors also got inspired seeing their King fighting strongly and charging ahead. Finally, their efforts emerged as a team and eventually managed to defeat the opponents.

Moral of this story is that we should not be tied to the fun filled (short) present, but must be prepared and looking forward.

Universal Religion Rating

A Six Point Scale for Religion Rating

Any religion should able to change with times and be fully civilized. From prehistoric times there are infinite number of religions in the world. Some are really good and some are not progressive enough. A religion may be rated based on the universal criteria listed below:

1. Is service to humanity, irrespective of caste, color and creed is the policy of the religion?

2. Do the religion advocates and practices non-violence?

3. Is the religion open to criticism?

4. Is the women given equal treatment and opportunity as men, for education and to work?

5. Is freedom of choices in life and religion allowed?

Apply the test above on a 0-5 scale. If an 'Yes' is found as answer to a question, set the score to 1, else mark 0 as score for that question. Once all the five questions are evaluated and scored individually, find the sum of scores from all five questions.  Now a net Score of 5 indicates the religion in consideration is excellent and 4 is Good.

Relevance of each Questions:

Question 1 is here as, the prime concern of every religion should be human beings. With out helping each other there can be no progress and development.

Question 2 is here as, only peace can ensure stability and development. Only a peaceful society can think and work together as a team.

Question 3 is here as, the only constant thing in the world is change. Any system should be able to adjust to changes. Or they will become obsolete and prehistoric.

Question 4 is here as, a modern society should acknowledge men and women as both human living beings. One needs the other for existence and well being.

Question 5 is here as, a man should be free to make his choices. He must be able to make decisions by free will. One should not be prosecuted for his way of life.

F.A.Q (Frequently Asked Questions)

How to choose a right path?

Learn, understand, compare and then choose. A tree can be identified by its fruits. A GOOD tree will never bear a foul/evil fruit.

Never fall for anybody’s words blindly. What is preached should be practiced as well.

Will all by being a member in some religion go to Heaven?

No. Definitely not.

Consider the case of two persons A and B. A is a 100% believer of his God, but has done only evil things all his life. B is not really a believer of any God, but has done 100% good things through out.
Now, who goes to heaven after death? A or B?

If there is a GOD, he must be compassionate, all forgiving and protective. He will never punish a good innocent man. So, God's choice will be B.

How good is your Leader?

There are so many definitions for the term ‘Leader’. The one impressed me the most is, “Leaders creates new realities”.

A man is as good as his leader. If you follow a loser you will also be a loser. A winner will have a successful leader to guide and lead him.

As a case study, consider Mahatma Gandhi and another a mafia don as two leaders. Those who follows Gandhiji will be peace lovers and righteous; doing only good for the mankind. Millions still love Gandhiji as he fought a great war against the mighty British Empire unarmed and without any bloodshed. On contrary, the followers of mafia don will be criminals, probably constantly chased by police. He may a thief or a smuggler, killing every innocent people coming his way.

In short, most important is the leader or role model one chooses. Leader is a teacher who inspires his flocks to follow his path (knowingly or unknowingly).  If your leader is not right, no wonder you are also wrong.

Hence, choose a righteous LEADER not a sinner to have the share of berth in heaven.

Child Marriages

Child marriages are still a reality in Kerala(though the percentage is very small). With a literacy over 96% in Kerala, its surprising how such incidences happen?

Many argue that the only cause for child marriage is dowry. If dowry is the reason, it must affect all communities and religions equally. However, this custom is popular only among a few. For instance, child marriages are still prominent among Adivasis and few other groups.

Majority of the people has moved forward with time, discarding or discontinuing ancient customs. For example Sathi (where a widow should also end life if her husband passes away) was in practice till nineteenth century in certain parts of India. But that society discontinued the practice. Hat’s off to Shri Rajaram Mohan Roy for his efforts to end this dark age custom.

So the entire issue of Child marriages may be brought down two possible reasons:

  1. Lack of Social Reformation: Few still live in bullock cart age. We know, most pure is the flowing water, not the stagnant. Hence, backward peoples must be properly educated and inspired to think forward.

  1. Over population: A parent, who has the annual income and ability to raise only one child, should never have 5 or 6 children. Only in such cases, with too many members in the family, the dowry can be a villain. For a single girl child family, government of India is providing lot of free grants for the girl child's education. And after the college education, the girl could be married off easily with the money family has saved over these years.
Over population is a burden not only to the family but also for every one else in the society. Over population is just like a crowded bus. Suppose only 40 can mount a bus as per the bus maximum capacity, it will be disaster if 100 people try to mount. With 100 people its possible that the bus may break down in the middle of the road, thus affecting not only the passengers inside the bus but also the travelers in other vehicles as the public road gets blocked. Over population retards the growth and development of the state.

Some people propagate children are God given gift and child births need not be controlled. This statement is partially correct, in that children are God given gift. But controlling sex  or safe sex that almost naturally controls child birth cannot be seen as a sin. Moreover it may argued that, at the time of natural illness artificial medical treatments are taken for its cure. Even blood and parts of human body is artificially transplanted to treat the disease. Hence,
if artificial medical treatments can be taken, adoption of birth control measures is not at all against the will of God or a sin.

Advantages seen by the advocates of child marriages
Children can be easily tamed and made to obey anything stupid. They can be made to believe anything. The supporters of child marriages possibly have hidden intentions. Real Reasons behind forced child marriages are short listed below.

1. A female, if educated will not sallow all instructions. She will start thinking(\use brains) and may start questioning as well. All these possibilities can be completely ruled off if girls are deprived of higher education.

2. A girl married at the age of 15, can bear children upto the age of 45. On contrary, an educated girl will oppose about the idea of having 10-12 kids. An educated girl will definitely say, let us follow governments directions and a small family is the happier family.

3. By keeping the girls away from the public education systems, the girl will never learn the truth, the opportunities outside and fall in love with the beautiful world outside.

Conclusion

Child marriages is a cover to deprive education to girls. Allegations on dowry as the only reason for child marriages is absurd. As because, if dowry is the real reason, the birth rates can be controlled if the family can not afford financial burdens. Government of India is encouraging birth control, by creating public awareness through constant advertisements and even provides free birth control treatments. Still, why some people choose to turn their backs to government machinery?.

By denying education to women the following is easy,

  • women will always remain dependent and submissive to man
  • women will always live by the wishes of  man, to the extent of allowing him to have several wives
Clearly, no educated girl will submit to any of the above. Child marriages clearly has no other reasons.

Independence Day 2013

August  15 -  Indian Independence Day 2013

Salutes the nation.

India is great for many things. India is seen as a holy land from early centuries. And it is home for many diverse communities from Kashmir to Kerala. In fact, India treats every one equally. No country in the world extents the same treatment and equal opportunities for all citizens irrespective of any divisions as majorities and minorities. A comparison with other countries will underline this fact. In India there is religious freedom, how many countries in the world permit this?. Every where we can find the brutal majority(even where 97% belong to the same religion) squeezing the namesake minorities. Also we can observe, there is terrorism prevails in countries even if a majority of over 75% belongs the same religion. Hence on comparison, east or west, India is the best.
India is one of the few countries that treat women as human. Equal opportunities are given to females for education and work. For instance, India had women Prime-ministers and Presidents. Also, women has the freedom to choose. Arunthati Roy, a noted writer won Booker prize.

An Advice for New Investors in Share Market

A lesson for amateur investors in share market

Few tips I gained from over 12 years of experience in share market is briefed here. I started with the IPO of Canara Bank. It gave me good returns. So. as an anxious overconfident young investor, I started my explorations for treasure with online trading. But, many years later I found, I never made anything over the bank interest rate, if I had made an equivalent Fixed Deposit in the bank.

Ø What are the major reasons for incurring losses from share market?

    1. Buy is not planned. Price of the scrip at the time of BUY , hence will be mostly at maximum.
    2. After a reasonable growth, investors are reluctant to sell the holdings.
    3. Investments on poor or under performing firms.
    My Explanations:

Entry into market must be planned after a detailed study and observations or should be based on expert opinion. Never invest your cash entirely over single scrip. Divide your money among different scrip’s covering diverse fields. When market falls, never get panic. Try to use them as opportunities for accumulating shares if the current market price (CMP) of scrip’s in hand falls below 50%, otherwise just leave it from your mind. Just remember that prices can recover up to 20% in a day.

Ø      What are the strategies for earning good returns from the share market?

    1. Prefer Long terms investments. They are safer.
    2. Invest, only when the market prices are low. Never buy when prices are at all time high.
    3. Never invest more than one-third of your of earning into share market.
    4. After a reasonable growth (say, >100%), at least partially book profits.
    My Explanations:

Based on my experience, I strongly recommend that never make all your investments into one field alone. One must divide his earnings wisely into three and may deposit as; one-third in bank as fixed deposits, another one-third in share market and the remaining on intangible commodities as gold or land.

    Population in Kerala

Total population in Kerala has touched 33,387,700 as per 2011 census. It comprises 16,021,300 men and 17,366,400 women.

Kerala is the only state with females head number greater than male counter parts. There are 1084 females for 1000 males.

    Population in Kerala – District-Wise

For every thing, tangible or intangible, there is an elastic limit, beyond which the object will break. Can the Earth feed present 700 core world’s total population? Will it be like the duck that laid golden egg, which was once killed by a greedy man.

    Rank
    District
    Population*
    1.
    Malappuram
    41,10,956
    2.
    Thiruvananthapuram
    33,07,284
    3.
    Ernakulam
    32,79,860
    4.
    Thrissur
    31,10,327
    5.
    Kozhikode
    30,89,543

Why Population Growth rate should be strictly controlled?

Everything has equilibrium. If the equilibrium is upset the object will crumble.

Too much of population leads to increased unending requirement for resources, which inturn results in increased production, industrialization and thus pollution. This will even affect the existence of other creatures in Earth. This will surely upset the Earths equilibrium as the life chain is affected. So obviously, a population check is essential. Its just like not allowing 100 men inside a 40 seater bus. Everything has a limit, beyond which it will certainly fail to work.

Why population is increasing steadily from twentieth century?
The human population  is increasing due to reduced death rate; which can be attributed to the growth in the field of medicine. The modern medicine has expanded the life span and death rate of human beings. As a result the human population is steadily increasing.
Hence, as a counter measure the birth rate should be strictly controlled. China is a good example for this. It must also be understood, its not quantity, but quality  that matters. Even-if one has only a single kid raise him with all attention and quality education.

Is birth control is a punishable act by GOD?
No. To understand this one must understands actions can be classified into two. Natural actions and deliberate actions. Growth of beard is natural, whereas child birth is the result of deliberate action. Hence resorting to birth control measures is not a sin. Moreover, as human resort to several artificial medical treatments as organ transplant and surgery, how could birth control alone be treated unjustifiable  in front of God.

    What is most sinful?
Most sinful is the destruction godly created natural objects and resources  as hills, rivers, valleys etc.

    Generalization

People often tends to generalize things. It may not me fair for 99% of time to generalize situations.
There is a proverb in Malayalam which means something like this - If a rabbit get killed when one jack fruit fall; will it mean that more rabbits will be killed when other jack fruits in the tree are axed. answer is definitely NO. Still people tend to generalize things as in the proverb.

Now the biggest question is - When to Generalize ?

Test once, test for second time, test it again and again for n times. Now, if all n instances are yielding True, we can Generalize that to b e fact.

    What is best for Kerala?

    Best plans for Kerala?

Kerala, looking into the future, should bank on the following two:

    1. Tourism

    2. Education

The reasons for the above proposal are outlined below:

    Why Tourism?

    •  the natural beauty of Kerala is a gift from God. Because this  reason Kerala is otherwise known as "god's own Country".
    • Second reason is that world tourism is increasing. More and more travelers are  seen to spent their vacations in visiting foreign places.
    Why Education?
    • The high literacy rate (close to 98%) and the manpower can be very effectively utilized. Kerala can be developed into as an Education hub. It will be useful for the youth in Kerala as they can get quality education and move out to foreign countries for employment.

Kerala instead on concentrating on the above two is spending time on harmful destruction of Hills, Rivers and Trees. The present trend in the state is to abandon agriculture and paddy are been sold to real estates. Residential flats and villas are then built leveling the once fertile land. I strongly believe in years to come tourism can bring us more revenues than any other industries. Hence what should be done is - preserve the god given treasure. Stop disfiguring the beautiful face of Kerala.
